Course Overview

Introduction

The Level 4 Diploma in Computing (L4DC) is the first year of the NCC Education degree journey. The qualification is equivalent to the first year of a computing degree qualification in the UK university system.

Students develop essential thinking and study skills, not only within the computing domain, but also within the context of business through a balance of academic and vocational subjects.

The qualification will allow students to understand and enter the computing profession with the necessary knowledge expected within the industry and the ability to apply the skills to a range of IT-related functions.

Entry Requirements

For entry onto the NCC Education L4DC course, students must have at least one of the following:

  • NCC Education Level 3 International Foundation Diploma for Higher Education Studies (L3IFDHES)

OR

  • NCC Education Level 3 Diploma in Computing (L3DC)

OR

  • An international qualification that is deemed to be of a similar level to the NCC Education L3IFDHES. This shall be agreed with NCC Education in advance

OR

  • One GCSE ‘A’ Level or equivalent, or an appropriate School Leavers’ certificate deemed to be of a similar level. This shall be agreed with NCC Education in advance
  • Mature students, able to demonstrate over two years’ relevant work experience and have an ‘O’ Level/GCSE/iGCSE English and Maths or equivalent.

For candidates whose first language is not English:

  • IELTS 5.5 or equivalent.

OR

  • GCSE/iGCSE ‘O’ Level English ‘C’ ‘4’ or equivalent*

OR

  • Alternatively, students can take and pass the free NCC Education Higher English Placement Test, at one of our Accredited Partner Centres.
Course Details

Students must complete the 5 core units and the 3 specialist units:

Core Units:

  • Algorithms and Mathematical Concepts for Computing
  • Computer Networks
  • Computer Systems
  • Databases
  • Front End Web Development

Mandatory Specialist Units:

  • Object Oriented System Analysis and Design
  • Software Engineering
  • Designing and Developing Object-Oriented
  • Computer Programmes
 
Career Progression

Students that complete the NCC Education Level 4 Diploma in Computing (L4DC) can:

  • Enrol onto to the NCC Education Level 5 Diploma in Computing (L5DC), Level 5 Diploma in Computing (with Cyber Security) (L5DC CS), Level 5 Diploma in Computing (with Business Management) (L5DC BM) or Level 5 Diploma in Computing (with Data Science) (L5DC DS), equivalent to Year 2 of a UK bachelor’s degree.
  • Or apply to Year 2 of a university degree programme.
Fees & Funding

The tuition fee for the academic year 2024/2025 – £6,000 ; and will apply to both the new and the continuing CSA students.
