Course Overview

The BA (Hons) Business Studies (Top-Up) programme is designed for students who have already completed relevant Level 4 and Level 5 study and wish to gain an Honours degree.
The programme builds advanced knowledge of contemporary business theory and practice, combining academic study with practical projects and industry-informed learning. You will strengthen your strategic thinking, critical analysis, decision-making and problem-solving skills for use in complex business environments.
With a focus on employability, innovation, enterprise and responsible business practice, the course supports you to become a confident, adaptable and career-ready graduate. On successful completion, you will be equipped to pursue opportunities in business, management and entrepreneurship.

Strategic Management

Learn how organisations create and implement strategies in competitive and changing business environments. You will use strategic frameworks to evaluate internal capabilities, external market conditions and options for improving organisational performance.

Career Strategy and Planning

Develop the awareness and practical skills needed to plan your future career. You will identify your strengths and goals, research the labour market, use digital professional platforms and prepare for graduate employment.

Business Sustainability and Social Responsibility in Practice

Explore how organisations respond to ethical, social and environmental challenges. You will examine stakeholder perspectives, corporate social responsibility and responsible leadership in long-term business success.

Theory of Innovation

Study key theories and frameworks that underpin innovation in business and policy contexts. You will explore innovation-led growth, national and global conditions for innovation, and sources of finance that support innovative activity.

Creative Problem Solving in Business

Develop structured and creative approaches to identifying and resolving organisational problems. You will assess alternative solutions, justify recommendations and create practical implementation plans.

Business Innovation in Practice

Apply your learning to evaluate a business and develop an innovative growth or development strategy. This module examines innovation policy, organisational change and the financial considerations of implementing innovation.

Entry requirements

Applicants will normally need:

  • A relevant Level 5 qualification, such as a Foundation Degree, HND or Diploma of Higher Education
  • 240 credits of relevant higher education study across Levels 4 and 5
  • Previous study in Business, Management, Marketing, Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related discipline
  • Academic transcripts and certificates confirming prior study and credits

There is no specific UCAS tariff requirement for this Top-Up programme.

Applicants with relevant professional experience, alternative qualifications or Recognition of Prior Learning may be considered individually. An interview or additional assessment may be required where appropriate.

English language requirements

Where previous study was not completed in English, applicants will normally need:

  • IELTS 6.0 overall, with at least 5.5 in each component, or
  • An approved equivalent English-language qualification.
